The Day

No one knew
When he grew
He’d choose
He’d muse
He’d win
He’d lose
But he’d get right up

He felt
He knelt
A few blows
He was dealt
And barriers
He’d melt
No one knew
He was just one
Of a few
But the first
For us
Of a darker hue
A day of rejoicing
Triumph leaps
And it runs
A man became President
Who's the color of my sons.
